ambulance chasers trademark warning

Address Update and Warning

Before warning about a new type of ambulance chasing that is worrying businesses, please note our change of address to 24 Laton Road Hastings East Sussex TN34 2ES.

In the last year we’ve been contacted by numerous clients who received alarming emails claiming to be from a law firm. The message suggests that someone else is trying to register a name similar to your brand name and claims that you do not have legal protection in the UK. The aim is to pressure recipients into unnecessary or costly services, or into disclosing sensitive business information.

Understandably, these emails cause confusion and concern. So, if you receive an email along these lines don’t worry:

“I am reaching out on behalf of the legal department at ****** Law Firm regarding the application for legal protection of the brand name ‘*****’ under UK intellectual property laws. We have received an application seeking exclusive rights to this name, and as part of our due diligence, we have reviewed it to ensure compliance with the Trade Marks Act 1994 and other relevant regulations.

During our research, we identified your details and noted that “******” does not currently appear to have formal registration for legal protection in the UK.”

The sender is NOT a genuine law firm. They are part of a broader fraudulent scheme aimed at deceiving businesses. This scam has been the subject of several warnings and news articles, including from the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

If you receive such an email do not respond, click any links, or provide any information. Rest assured that no genuine law firm would ever send you such a message.
